Is the benefit of probiotics and prebiotics proven or not?
Two things prompted this podcast episode. Firstly, an inquiry from a journalist claiming that the benefits of prebiotic products for digestion and the immune system have not been proven. Even small amounts of prebiotics (10 grams) could cause flatulence and diarrhea in sensitive people. Fibre is good for digestion, but you don't need prebiotic supplements for this.Then I came across the statement on social media and in a podcast that it is a mistake to take probiotics to get your gut in order and that this is money wasted.I'm sharing my opinion on this today, based primarily on our 15 years of practical experience. The feedback from our practice proves us right! Today I am going to tell you about three people who have benefited enormously from probiotics without changing their diet.
What's more:
- Not all dietary supplements can be lumped together (quality and the right product in the right place are crucial).
- Common mistake: only using food supplements
- Food supplements yes, but not as the only or even the most important measure. As the name suggests, it is a supplement and should be embedded in a holistic plan (diet, lifestyle, mindset)
- The quality of the products is crucial
- There is no "habituation effect"
- If you want to do it without products: Humans need good bacteria! So: eat fermented food
