"But fondue has no lactose..." 5 gut health myths I kept hearing this week (DG332)

What is really behind milk problems, when supplements make sense and how you can get clarity with analytics

I'm currently advertising on Facebook and I'm getting a lot of comments and remarks that show me that there are still so many myths and misconceptions circulating about nutrition and gut health.

That's why in this podcast episode I'm clearing up 5 typical myths that I've been confronted with particularly frequently in recent weeks. From "lactose-free = problem solved" to "just use baking soda", I'll explain what's often behind them and what you can do instead.

In this episode, you'll find out:

  • Why lactose is not automatically the main reason for discomfort after dairy products
  • Why casein (milk protein) is often overlooked
  • Why "baking soda is enough" usually falls short
  • "Health shouldn't cost anything": what I honestly think about this
  • Why we can't simply "mix the products in the Darm Aktiv Bundle into a tin", even if it seems practical at first glance

Myth 1: "Fondue has almost no lactose, so it can't be that"

True, fondue generally contains little lactose. And yet many people report bloating, pressure, stomach ache and restlessness after fondue.

The mistake is that many people equate "dairy product = lactose problem". But there are two other classics:

1) The milk protein (casein)

Some people do not react to the lactose, but to the milk protein. And this is of course also contained in lactose-free products. So lactose-free does not automatically mean symptom-free.

2) An unfavorable digestive environment

If digestive juices and the intestinal environment do not work together optimally, food can "stay put" and start to ferment. In the podcast episode, I describe this as "too alkaline" and "too little acid". The picture is: there is a lack of digestive power. Stomach acid in particular is often underestimated.

Practical step:

If you have significant intestinal problems: take a break from dairy products, not as a life sentence, but as a test phase. And at the same time, support your system in a targeted way so that you can build up more tolerance again later.

Myth 2: "Just take baking soda and your digestion will work again".again"

I'm not against baking soda in principle, we even have baking soda capsules in our range. But: "Just swallow baking soda" is often like turning up the radio when you hear a squeaking car. You hear it less, but the problem remains.

If the issue is deeper, it often requires several components:

  • Dietary fiber (for example acacia fiber)
  • Bacterial cultures (probiotics)
  • amino acids (for example L-glutamine for the mucous membrane)
  • depending on the situation, additional bitter substances, micronutrients, and of course: nutrition

Practical step:

If you "have to take something" after every meal, that's a sign: do some root cause research instead of a permanent box of tricks.

Myth 3: "Nobody should make money from health"

I understand the idea. And at the same time: when the electrician comes to my house, I don't say "How can you make money from the fact that my light isn't working". Service has a value.

And to be honest: sometimes paying even helps with implementation. When something has a price, it suddenly becomes real. Then you implement it, because you have paid something for it.

Additional point that resonates: "Food supplements are overpriced"
Yes, there are black sheep. But there are also products that really do something. And fiber is a good example: work out how many vegetables you would have to eat to get a constant high amount every day. In real life, this is more difficult for many people than they would like. admits.

Myth 4: "Just mix your Gut Active Bundle in a can"

That sounds practical, perhaps saves on packaging and you would only have "one powder". However, there is a real problem in everyday life: moisture and timing.

  • Acacia fibers have a certain amount of residual moisture.
  • If you mix this with bacteria powder, the cultures can "become active" too early and the effectiveness suffers over storage time and shipping.
  • What's more, probiotics should ideally be left to stand in water for a short time, while L-glutamine should be drunk as soon as possible after mixing. Different logic, different handling.

Everyday tip from the episode:

You can very well dissolve "almost everything together" in a glass: Mix acacia fiber + probiotics, let stand briefly, add L-glutamine just before drinking. This way you still only have one glass instead of three rituals.

Myth 5: "I don't need supplements, I solve everything through nutrition"

If you are healthy, have no complaints and are really consistent: I'm right there with you. Nutrition is the basis, I come from a nutrition coaching background myself.

However, if you already have symptoms, inflammation, severe imbalances, allergies, autoimmune issues or constant fatigue, then diet alone is often not enough, or it takes much longer. Then targeted support can be useful, plus clarity through diagnostics.

The best next step: clarity instead of guesswork

Microbiome analysis (stool analysis)

If you have digestive problems and want to know what's really going on, a microbiome analysis is often a very useful shortcut.

Prevent360 finger blood analysis

If you want to know how you are "doing overall", including micronutrients and other markers, Prevent360 is an exciting test, with a small blood sample from the fingertip.
