Fresh cooking for your gut health: explained for everyday use (DG331)

Why I cook fresh every day, even when I don't have much time

Gut health is not a coincidence, but the result of daily habits. In this episode, I talk about why fresh cooking is one of the most important levers for a healthy gut flora and why it has nothing to do with perfection or standing in the kitchen for hours on end.

You will learn

  • why real, natural foods are the basis for a healthy gut
  • why highly processed convenience products can put additional stress on the gut
  • why fewer ingredients are often better tolerated
  • why cooking is a skill and not a talent
  • how routine and structure save more time than any kitchen appliance

I talk about where statements such as "no time" or "no desire" to cook often come from and how you can counteract this.

Cooking fresh for a healthy gut: why simple food makes such a difference

Gut health doesn't happen overnight. It is the result of many small decisions we make every day. If I had to pick just one nutritional tip, it would be this: eat real, natural foods and cook fresh as often as possible.

And this is where the objections usually come in. No time. No desire. Too time-consuming.

But often the problem is not the cooking itself, but the lack of practice and structure.

Why fresh cooking is so important for the gut

Your gut flora thrives on what you feed it every day. Studies show that a regular diet of unprocessed foods is linked to a more diverse and robust gut flora. Vegetables, pulses, wholegrain products and simple meals provide exactly the nutrients your gut needs.

Heavily processed convenience foods, on the other hand, often contain additives, emulsifiers and preservatives that can put additional strain on the gut. The problem here is not primarily the number of calories, but the effect of these substances in the body.

Fewer ingredients, less stress for the digestive system

For the gut, less is often more. A meal consisting of one source of protein, one or two vegetables and one source of fat is much easier on the digestive system than a plate with twelve ingredients, several sauces and lots of spices.

The positive side effect: such meals are quicker to cook and easier to integrate into everyday life.

Cooking is a skill, not a talent

Nobody is born a fast cook. Cutting, assessing processes, timing - all this is a matter of practice. Those who rarely cook are slower. If you cook regularly, you automatically become faster and more confident.

The basics are also often lacking: good knives, sufficiently large chopping boards and simple processes. If you don't have the right tools, cooking is no fun.

Here you will find a video of a chef showing you which knives you should ideally have in your kitchen and how to cut with them:https://youtu.be/GYl-tqYRfbE?si=dTb9veriRH9rwzM7

Structure beats motivation

The biggest time waster is not cooking, but thinking about it every day: What am I cooking today? What is healthy? What do I still have in the fridge?

This is exactly where structure comes in. Recurring dishes, simple recipes and clear processes take a lot of pressure off.

Conclusion

Cooking fresh is not a question of perfection, but of feasibility. And feasibility comes from practice, simplification and structure. Your gut will thank you for it, and over time, home-cooked food often tastes better than any ready meal.
